School Supplies Program

Picture
Being equipped with the proper tools for school is essential to academic success.  However, for many school-aged children in Polk County, education has taken a backseat due to greater family needs such as food and utilities.

Outreach recognizes that in order to break the cycle of poverty and hunger, children must be prepared to learn and succeed in school.  Additionally, statistics show that children tend to learn and retain more information if they perceive themselves to be on a level playing field with other children.  Children that are academically prepared have higher self-confidence, self-worth and pride, which in turn, results in better grades.

The School Supplies Program serves school-aged children (Pre-K - 12th grade) whose families are unable to purchase needed school supplies.  Each year, Outreach collects or purchases new back packs, pencils, notebooks, pens, paper, rulers and other supplies for distribution.  School Supplies are distributed each year, the first Saturday in August in the Polk County Middle School cafeteria (321 Wolverine Trail, Mill Spring NC). At our School Supplies Distribution, students will choose their brand new back pack and receive a package of brand new school supplies customized for the grade they will be entering when school starts back.

To learn more about the school supplies program, contact Client Services  Manager, Michelle Reedy at michelle.reedy@tboutreach.org or 828-894-2988.

If you wish to donate new school supplies, you can deliver supplies to Outreach offices (134 White Drive, Columbus NC) or make a monetary donation to
Outreach and designate "school supplies program".   Your gift will make a difference!
