Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry (“Outreach”), a 501(c)(3) organization serving Polk County, NC, is seeking a dynamic individual to assume its leadership as executive director for the organization following the retirement of the incumbent executive director later this year.
Serving the community with crisis assistance for 24 years, Outreach provides a food pantry and helps on a limited basis with shelter and medical funding for families and individuals in need. The organization typically serves more than 300 families per month, about twice as many as five years ago.
Governed by a diverse 12-member board of directors, the organization has an annual budget of over $1,000,000, including in-kind contributions. Outreach owns its facilities and has no debts. Its auditors have declared the agency “a model for not-for-profit agency financial management.”
Outreach has three full-time and four part-time paid employees who are supplemented by a corps of more than 100 volunteers.

- Senior management experience, preferably in the not-for-profit field
- Experience with crisis assistance related organizations and working with indigent people
- Preparing and managing budgets in excess of $500,000
- Supervising paid employees and volunteers
- Conducting sustainable fund raising for a charitable organization, including preparation of grant applications and growing the donor base
Personal attributes to include:
- Office management and computer skills
- Ability to relate well with others and motivate people
- Ability to maintain and prepare understandable statistical and financial reports
- Attention to detail without getting bogged down in minutia
- Demonstrated high degrees of initiative, tact, dedication and compassion
- Ability to persuade others to make generous contributions for Outreach operations
- Effective oral and written communication skills

Education requirements
- Preferably a degree or equivalent experience in management and/or social service matters
